Welcome to my little corner of the blogosphere!
In this blog you can follow the progress of my personal Happiness Project. Inspired by author Gretchen Rubin, each month I will tackle a new area of my life and work on improving it – hopefully becoming more joyful along the way.
One major theme within my Happiness Project will be my struggles with weight and self-acceptance. I have been fat my entire life. Sometimes I joke that losing weight has been my second full-time job!
In 2007 I made the decision to undergo weight loss surgery, and had RNY gastric bypass in 2008. It has been a difficult, but worthwhile process. As of this writing, I’ve lost 115 pounds and kept that weight off for four years. I weigh less in my 40s than I did as a teenager.
The one thing that haunts me though, is the fact that I’ve never made it to a healthy Body Mass Index (or BMI). I’ve gone from clinically super-morbidly-obese to overweight. A great accomplishment, but I feel unfinished. One of the goals of this life-improvement project is to lose 41 pounds – enough to be considered healthy.
A second major theme of this blog will be a “One Perfect Word” Project. This project, inspired by author Debbie MacComber, is a spiritual one. For the next twelve months, I will study, pray and reflect on one word, learning all that I can about the word and trying to apply it to my daily life. The word I’ve chosen is “trust.”
Those are the basics! I hope you will visit often and we can learn from each other.
